Driver overtakes line of vehicles, kills mother and daughter
A mother and her daughter were killed Thursday night when the driver of a Toyota Corolla motor car overtook a line of vehicles and ran into six people who were walking along the Osbourne Store main road in Clarendon.
The two – Karlene King, 30, and her nine-year-old daughter, Anna-Kay King, both of Swansea District – were on their way home from church when they were hit by the motor car.
Anna-Kay who was a student of the Osbourne Store Primary and Junior High School.
The other four persons who were walking in the group received injuries. They are:
. Darlen Gordon, 12;
. Garfon White, 25, of Bucknor District;
. Linda Sewell, 15; and
. Micheal Rodney, 15, both students of John Austin All-age School and of New Longsville District in Clarendon. All four were taken to the May Pen Hospital for treatment.
According to Corporal Michael Graham of the Four Paths Police Traffic Department, the accident happened at about 10:35 pm when the driver of a 1995 white Toyota Corolla motor car, registered 8645 EE, was travelling towards Mandeville when the driver overtook a line of traffic, and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then ran into the group of people who were walking in the opposite direction on the right side of the road.
The Four Paths police said they were yesterday seeking the driver of the vehicle for questioning in connection with the incident.
