When I was a kid maybe 8 or so, we used to be able to go into "The General Store" and get these tablets, pretty much like Alka Seltzer. Buy like 10 for a dollar, maybe less, all kinds of flavors. you just dropped them in a glass of water, and they would fizz into a soda pop!

I was asking a younger co-worker if he ever saw them, he said they used to buy what were called "Bottle Caps"
but they ate them as a sweet tart, very tart candy, thought never occured to them to toss them in water.

Having done some research ! Bottle Caps are indeed Candy, and were intended as such, and can still be bought today.

However I haven't ever seen Soda tabs since 8 or 9!

I miss the Halloween candy called Witch's brooms, or broomsticks, or something like that. It was banana flavored taffy wrapped in a brown and orange wrapper.

I’ve never heard of them. Pop rocks are fun though. Dairy Queen used to make a grape koolaid explosion blizzard that had grape pop rocks in it. I ate lots of those when I was in college.

I loved penny candy, if we had 2 or 3 cents we'd go to the corner grocer!

 

What about 6 ounce soda bottles in the vending machines for a nickel?

 

Bazooka Joe Bubble Gum, 2 for a penny, then a penny each, then 2 pennies each, then 2 for a nickel, after that didn't buy anymore.

 

Doing some research, Yes Fizzies ! 19 cents for a pack of 8, but the sweetner, Saccarin was outlawed by FDA. It came back a couple times with new sweetners, and failed to gain the poularity it had with boomer kids.

When I go into Wendy's and they want $3 bucks for a soda, it is grand theft considering Circle k sells same product for .89 cents !

Nowdays you can buy a wide variety of flavorings to put in bottles of water , yet none Fizz ! A&W Root beer, orange and grape crush, ginger ale, and MIO products! Flavor with no fizz! Why no Fizz?

The ones I remember were in Alka seltzer type foil packs all connected in a ribbon, and you just peeled off how many you wanted. Though I'm sure the packaging changed at some point.

I had a whole shoebox of baseball cards from buying bubble gum, Some of them no doubt would be worth some real coin today. My Mom sold them for 5 bucks in a yard sale, years later, when I asked where they were, she told me . Deep inside I was beyond furious, but mom didn't know any better, so I didn't make a big deal out of it.
